Pine Mountain Trail Overnight Camps

The Birch Knob Trail has one overnight camp midway of the trail at Birch Knob. The Birch Knob Shelter has a cabin, water access and a moldering privy nearby. The Birch Knob Observation Deck is located here at the highest elevation on the Birch Knob Trail.

The Highlands Trail has two sheltered overnight camps. South 7.75 miles from the northern trailhead at US 23 is the Adena Springs Shelter.

With a privy nearby and a water source, the Adena Springs Shelter is a convenient stop in the middle of the Highlands Trail.

At around 15.5 miles from the US 23 trailhead and only a half a mile from the south end of the Highlands Trail is the Flamingo Shelter. With a privy and water, you have what you need for an overnight stay.

Without constructed shelters but designated as campsites on the Highlands Trail are the Jack Sauter Campsite 1.5 miles south of the US 23 Trailhead, the Indian Grave Campsite at 5.0 miles and Swindell Campsite 10.0 miles south of US23.

Within the Kingdom Come State Park is the Black Bear Shelter on the Saltess Trail marked by blue blazes. Nearby is a valulted toilet and water. Additional camping within the KCSP is at the Upper Room Overlook on the Little Shepherd Trail.
